Summary of Our Puppy Purchase Process Effective January 1, 2022

-Emery-n-Denise's Golden Puppies General Info   /   Jan 1st, 2022   /  A+ | a-
UPDATED: 1/31/2024

This article is intended to be a summary of information for those interested in one of our future puppy litters. There is a lot of information on our website to read and consider, but this article will help to explain how the process at Emery-n-Denise’s Golden Puppies works. You will also find links to other areas of our website which provide additional information that many of our customers have found informative and interesting.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: When you place a single deposit to get on one of our waiting lists, that deposit puts you on the waiting list for only the gender you choose, not both genders. If you think you would be happy with either a male or female puppy and you want to be in line for both genders, you have to place two (2) deposits, one for each gender. This will increase your chances of getting a puppy sooner from that particular upcoming litter if you are flexible with the gender. Then, if it turns out there are enough puppies for you to get either of the two genders but you only want one puppy, then you can choose the gender you prefer and roll your other deposit over to the puppy you are getting (so, you don't lose any of your deposits). ALL DEPOSITS ARE APPLIED TO THE PURCHASE PRICE OF YOUR CHOSEN PUPPY.

Here are the minimum three (5) things you need to do before getting on one of our puppy reservation lists:

1. Read our Purchase Agreement and our Supplemental Terms & Conditions. This is the contract verbatim that you will sign later on if you decide to purchase one of our puppies. If you have any questions about the Purchase Agreement or T&C, call us to discuss.

2. Fill out a
Puppy Application. There really isn’t any disqualifying answers on this application however, you should be aware that we only sell our puppies to families or individuals whose intended purpose for the puppy is a family pet, companion animal, or service dog. Our puppies are only available with limited AKC registration. Absolutely no full-registrations sales of puppies will be considered. So, if you are intending to possibly breed your dog sometime in the future, Emery-n-Denise’s Golden Puppies is not the right choice for you.

3. Text us or email us a message saying you have completed the first two steps and are ready to get on one of our reservation lists. Then we will send you back instructions which allow you to get on the list by creating a separate customer account for each list you want to be on. In other words, you would create an account for each puppy color (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn) and gender (male or female) that you want to get on the waiting list for. So basically, we have eight seperate waiting lists (two genders for each of the four colors of Golden Retriever Puppies that we offer).

4. Read our article entitles,  "
Advance Preparation Before Bringing Your New Golden Puppy Home". This article provides a checklist and will help you prepare for the day when you bring your puppy home.

5. Read our article entitles,  "Vetting Your Veterinarian". One of your first responsibilities after bringing you puppy home will be to have your puppy checked by a licensed Veterinarian. You will have 3 to 4 Vet visits during those first 3 months. If you have a Vet already in mind, read this article to help you be educated. If you don't already have in mind, read this article and it will help you find one.

That's pretty much it!

The following provides probably some of the most important information that most people will want to know when considering a purchase from Emery-n-Denise’s Golden PuppiesTM. These revised policies will go into effect starting January 1, 2022.

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO START THE PROCESS AND PURCHASE A PUPPY OR GET ON A WAITING LIST:

First, you should decide which of our five colors of Golden Retrievers you are interested in (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn). Second, you need to decide if you want a male or female puppy. We take seven 1st Priority deposits for males and seven 1st Priority deposits for females in each of the five colors of Golden Retrievers that we breed. In addition, we take seven 2nd Priority deposits for both males and females of each color. Third, it is necessary for you to create a customer registration account so that we can keep track of your contact information, your picking order, and your deposit (if paid). This is your private account where you will be able to periodically log in and check out where you currently stand. Since we do get cancellations, you may find that you have moved up the list, but you will never move down. Before creating a new customer account with us, please read our new puppy purchase policies below which went into effect on January 1, 2022. We know this may seem a bit long and time consuming to read so if you want to get the digest of all this, call us and we will be happy to give you a more concise explanation of our revised policies to purchase a puppy from Emery-n-Denise's Golden Puppies.

Most of the time, our puppies are spoken for before they are born by people who have been on one of our waiting lists. Occaisionally, puppies are available for purchase now and your waiting time will be only weeks intead of months. So if you are sure you are ready now to take on the awesome responsibility of bringing a puppy home, look on our
Puppy Availability Schedule to see if any puppies are currently available. Then contact us to confirm.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS: If there are no puppies currently available, the best way you can get a puppy sooner rather than later is to get on more than one of our waiting lists. This means you have to place more than one deposit and create more than one customer accounts (one for each deposit made) so we can keep track of everyone. Wait, you say... "I don't wan't more than one puppy, I just want one to bring home!" We get that so it's not like you will loose your other deposits once you decide on your puppy you'll be bringing home. All your deposits will transfer over to the one puppy you are getting and you will be that much ahead on paying your final balance. We encourage this because we can't predict how many pups will be born in a litter, or how many males or females... But if you get on the waiting list for both genders, and 2 or more colors of upcoming litters, you will greatly increase your chances of getting a puppy sooner rather than having to wait 6 to 8 months for the next litter to arrive. A lot of people have been doing this, but it's just something to think about...

*****  START OF OUR 2022 REVISED POLICIES  *****

EMERY-N-DENISE’S GOLDEN PUPPIESTM
PURCHASE POLICY STARTING JANUARY 1, 2022

The following is a detailed description of our policy changes for 2022 that we have put together to try to better accommodate those who definitely want to purchase a puppy from Emery-n-Denise’s Golden Puppies as well as others who perhaps want to keep their options open:

OUR WAITING LISTS FOR UPCOMING LITTERS:
As of December 2022, we maintain a total of 10 reservation lists which includes a seperate list for males and females in each of our 5 colors of Golden Retriever litters: white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn. All of our Golden Retrievers are AKC registered pure breds, are on site, and owned by us. The details of our waiting lists can be found on our Upcoming Puppy Litters schedule on our main page (scroll down to 2nd table after clicking this link).

1.  PRIORITY RESERVATIONS:
There are two (2) levels of priority reservations which are for those who have done all their research and know they definitely want a Golden Retriever Puppy, they have talked to us on the phone, they have spent a significant amount of time looking through our website, they like what we are about and our passion for Golden Retrievers, and they have decided that Emery-n-Denise are definitely the right breeders for them whether it be in the immediate or distant future:

1A.  1ST PRIORITY RESERVATION - $300 (non-refundable):
Our first priority reservation is for those who are 100% sure they want to buy a puppy from Emery-n-Denise’s Golden Puppies whether it be now or later. A 1st priority reservation puts you in the top picking positions (1 through 7) on our waiting list for each litter color and gender of puppy you are seeking. The picking order is based on the order we receive your deposit. The deposit for 1st priority is $300 and is non-refundable if you cancel, unless there are not enough pups for you to get the gender you were waiting for when the litter is born. If a refund is not requested, your reservation for that same gender will move up to a higher position on the 1st Priority list in the next litter of the same color. Refunds must be requested within 6 weeks from the date of birth of your first puppy litter reservation. Any deposit for which a refund has not been requested within 6 weeks will automatically be moved up to a reservation position of 1st Priority in the next litter of the same color and gender. A 1st priority reservation can be made for one or more of the litter colors we offer (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn), and for one or both genders (male, female, or both). Multiple reservations will increase your chances of getting a puppy. Each additional 1st Priority reservation requires an additional deposit of $300. When a litter is born where you will definitely be getting a puppy from that litter, all of your other deposits will transfer over to that puppy purchase.

1B.  2ND PRIORITY RESERVATION - $200 (non-refundable):
Our second priority reservation is designed for those who are 90% sure they want to buy from Emery-n-Denise’s Golden Puppies, but whose lives might be a little more fluid and something could come up that causes you to postpone your puppy purchase. A 2nd priority reservation puts you in the next highest picking positions (8 through 14) on our waiting list for each litter color and gender of puppy you are seeking. The picking order is based on the order we receive your deposit. The deposit for 2nd priority is $200 and is non-refundable if you cancel, unless there are not enough pups for you to get the gender you were waiting for when the litter is born. A 2nd priority reservation can be made for one or more of the litter colors we offer (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn), and for one or both genders (male, female, or both). Multiple reservations will increase your chances of getting a puppy. Each additional 2nd priority reservation requires an additional deposit of $200. When a litter is born where you will definitely be getting a puppy from that litter, all of your other deposits will transfer over to that puppy purchase.

2.  STANDBY WAITING LIST (no deposit required):
The Standby waiting list is for those who have dreamed of owning a Golden Retriever Puppy, and perhaps you have talked to us a little on the phone and briefly looked at our website, but you still haven’t decided that Emery-n-Denise are the breeders you will definitely buy from. Or, maybe you want to leave room for unexpected things to come up that might prevent you from taking on the responsibilities of a new puppy at that time. Maybe you feel any breeder would be fine for you as long as you can get a Golden Retriever Puppy in the shortest amount of time. So then, you may be working something out with several breeders. If there is a chance that something could come up that causes you to buy a puppy elsewhere, or you need to change your mind entirely about buying a puppy at this time, our Standby list would probably be best for you. With this in mind, you won’t have any money at risk of losing if you have to back out for some reason. Therefore, our Standby list does not require a deposit and puts you in picking position 15 or greater on the waiting list according to the color and gender of puppy you are seeking. The order of our Standby list is according to the order in which you registered your standby information on our website when you create an account. You can get on our Standby list for one or more of the litter colors we offer (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn), and for one or both genders (male, female, or both). Multiple reservations will increase your chances of possibly getting a puppy. Your chances of getting a puppy after they are born depends on how many people have paid to get on the Priority reservation lists. If the Priority list is only half full (7 of the 14 positions filled), that means the number 15 spot on the Standby list is really like the number 8 picking position overall. So, the Standby list is not necessarily a long-shot, and it does give you the flexibility to buy a puppy elsewhere or change your mind completely without losing a deposit.

3.  KEY MILESTONES WHILE WAITING TO GET YOUR PUPPY:
The following information provides additional clarification about our Priority reservations and Standby waiting list before and after a puppy litter is born:

3A.  BEFORE A PUPPY LITTER IS BORN:
3A.1  Making a 1st Priority Reservation.  A 1st Priority reservation spot (1 through 7) can be purchased if it is available and would put you ahead of all 2nd Priority reservations (8 through 14) as well as those on Standby. A 1st Priority reservation is your best chance of getting a puppy from the upcoming litter, although we cannot guarantee you will get a puppy since we don't know how many pups will be in a litter or the number of each gender until they are born.

3A.2
Making a 2nd Priority Reservation.  A 2nd Priority reservation spot (8 through 14) can be purchased if it is available and would put you ahead of those on Standby, but behind those in the 1st Priority positions (1 through 7).

3A.3  Venmo Payment Method.  The quickest and easiest way to purchase a Priority List reservation is to use the Venmo smartphone App. Our Venmo account name is Emery-n-Denise@Golden-Puppies. If you are unable to use this method, please call us for other arrangements.

3A.4  Standby Only After All Priority Spots are Filled.  If all Priority reservations have been filled (the first 14 positions on the waiting list), only Standby positions will be offered.

3B.  AFTER A PUPPY LITTER IS BORN, BUT BEFORE 5 WEEKS OF AGE:
3B.1  Priority List Merge.  All 1st & 2nd Priority positions for which we have a puppy available are merged together and are simply called Priority reservations. Those that were in 1st Priority will be at the top and those that were in 2nd priority will come next, according to the number of pups of the gender you have chosen to be in line for.

3B.2  Priority List Notice.  After the puppies are born, we will begin contacting our Priority customers, and you will have 72 hours to respond to our phone calls, text messages, and emails. If you have not responded after 72 hours, your Priority reservation will automatically be moved to next litter, and the next person on our Priority list will move up and take your place on the list for that puppy litter.

3B.3  Standby List Notice.  If we have more pups still available after all those with paid deposits have been guaranteed a puppy to pick, we will then make pups available to our Standby list, and then to the general public. When we begin contacting our Standby list, a Standby customer will have 12 hours to respond to our phone calls, text messages, and emails. If you have not responded after 12 hours, your Standby position on our waiting list is cancelled completely for that litter, and the next person on our list moves up and takes your place on the list.

3B.4  Standby List Deposit.  If you are on our standby list and we notify you that we have a puppy available for you to purchase, a non-refundable deposit of $500 will be required. The deposit is due immediately when we notify you, which occurs approximately 1 week after the puppies are born.

3B.5  Not Enough Puppies for Priority Customers.  When there are not enough puppies in a litter for a priority customer who has placed a deposit to get a puppy, a deposit refund is an option for your first litter reservation, but must be requested by text or email within 6 weeks of the birth of that litter. If that request is not made, your deposit will be automatically moved to the next litter of the same color and gender.

3C.  AFTER PUPPIES ARE 5 WEEKS OF AGE:
3C.1  See the Puppies and Make your Choice.  All customers who have placed a deposit and have been guaranteed a puppy pick from a litter must now choose your puppy by seeing the puppies in person, or on a video chat with us and the puppies, or from pictures that we can email to you (you decide which of these is your preference).

3C.2  Priority List 2nd Deposit. Those on our Priority list will choose first and if they choose a puppy, an additional deposit must be made to bring your total deposit up to $1,000, which is non-refundable under any circumstances. But if you choose not to buy a puppy that we have available for you, your deposit will be automatically moved to the next litter of the same color and gender.

3C.3  Standby List Deposits. Those who are on our Standby list will choose their puppy after the Priority list has made their choices (unless there are no Priority reservations ahead of you). If a person on Standby gets to choose a puppy, your total deposit must be $1,000 at 5 weeks of age, which is non-refundable under any circumstances. If you choose not to buy a puppy after you have paid your initial $500 deposit or any subsequent deposits, your Standby reservation will be converted to a 1st Priority position of the same color and gender as your Standby reservation. You must contact us within 72 hours when we attempt to reach you by phone and/or text messaging when it is time for you to pick your puppy at 5 weeks of age. If we do not hear from you within 72 hours after we attempt to reach you, your puppy reservation will be cancelled entirely and we will offer the puppy to the next person in line on our waiting list. However, your non-refundable deposit(s) can be used towards the purchase of a puppy from a future litter upon request.

3C.4  Puppies Offered to General Public. If puppies are still available after our Priority and Standby lists have made their decisions, the remaining puppies will be made available to the general public. The deposit will be $1,000 and is non-refundable under any circumstances.

3D.  YOUR PUPPY IS READY TO GO HOME AT AROUND 9 WEEKS OF AGE:
3D.1  Puppies Go to New Owners.  We will coordinate with you for your puppy to come home to you or your family at approximately 9 weeks of age, usually on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The delivery options are: (1) you pick the puppy up from us at no additional cost; (2) we meet you somewhere at an additional cost; (3) you pick the puppy up from our courier at MCI Airport in Kansas City at an additional cost; or (4) we fly the puppy to you on an approved airline at an additional cost. The final balance you will owe is the total purchase price, plus 6.725% state sales tax on the purchase price, which is applicable to ALL PURCHASES, UNLESS you do not reside in the state of Missouri AND you are having the puppy delivered to you by airline to an airport outside the state of Missouri.

3D.2  Final Balance Payment if Picking Up or at a Meeting Place.  If you are coming to pick your puppy up from us or we are meeting you somewhere, your final balance can be paid several different ways with the following time constraints: (a) the day of your puppy delivery by cash or Venmo App (Emery-n-Denise@Golden-Puppies); (b) three days prior to delivery by credit card using PayPal (with a 3.9% fee); or (c) two weeks prior to delivery by mailing us a personal check using priority mail. If you pay by personal check, your puppy can not go home with you or be delivered to you until your check clears our account.

3D.3  Final Balance Payment for Airline Delivery.  If you are having your puppy delivered by airlines, your final balance must be paid within the following time constraints: (a) one week prior to your puppy’s travel date by U.S. Postal Money Order or Venmo App (Emery-n-Denise@Golden-Puppies); or (b) one week prior to your puppy’s travel date by credit card using PayPal (with a 3.9% fee).

3D.4  Final Balance Payment for Kansas City Delivery.  If you are having your puppy delivered for pick up at MCI Airport in Kansas City, your final balance can be paid several different ways with the following time constraints: (1) three days prior to your puppy’s travel date by Venmo App (Emery-n-Denise@Golden-Puppies); (2) three days prior to your puppy’s travel date by credit card using PayPal (with a 3.9% fee); or two weeks prior to your puppy’s travel date by mailing us a personal check using priority mail. If you pay by personal check, your puppy can not be delivered to you until your check clears our account.

3D.5  Mailing Address for Payments by Personal Check.  If you are mailing us a personal check, your check should be made out to Emery-n-Denise's Golden Puppies and mailed to the following address:

EMERY-n-DENISE's GOLDEN PUPPIES
RR 4 BOX 760
AVA, MISSOURI  65608-9337

Please write your puppy's 4-digit puppy I.D. on the memo line of your check and make sure to choose a delivery option so that it will arrive to us not later than 14 days before your puppy is to be delivered.

3E.  FOR THOSE WHO PLACED A DEPOSIT BUT DIDN’T GET A PUPPY:
3E.1  Not Enough Puppies – Refund Time Limitation for Those on Our Priority Lists.  Any litter that you place a deposit on for the first time to get on our 1st or 2nd Priority List (meaning, that your deposit has not rolled over from a previous litter where you did not get a puppy for any reason), your deposit has the option for you to get a refund IF there were not enough pups in this first litter for you to get one of the gender and color you were on a waiting list for. The refund must be requested within 6 weeks of the birth of the first litter (when the puppies are 6 weeks old). If this request is not made, your deposit will be automatically moved to a 1st priority position in the next litter of the same color and gender. A deposit that rolls over to the next litter is non-refundable under any circumstances.

3E.2  Non-Refundable Deposit for Those Who Were Originally On Our Standby List.  If you placed a $500 deposit on a puppy before 5 weeks of age, you will lose that and any subsequent deposit you make if you cancel at anytime before the puppy is ready to bring home. However, your non-refundable deposit(s) can be used towards the purchase of a puppy from a future litter upon request.

3E.3  Consecutive Litter Reservations.  Anyone remaining on our Priority waiting list after 3 consecutive litters and has not purchased a puppy will be cancelled automatically, and no deposit refund will be given. This is not an attempt by us to keep your deposit if you were never offered a chance to pick a puppy. But we are confident that everyone will get an opportunity to get a puppy within three litters. However, if a situation arises where that is not the case, we will consider a remedy to make our customers happy by transferring your deposit over to the next litter or another litter.

3E.4  Existing Waiting List.  If a customer was on our reservation list and paid a deposit prior to January 1, 2022, but did not get one of our puppies born 2021, the deposit amount you have already paid is adequate up until the puppy you will be getting in the future reaches 5 weeks of age. When your puppy reaches 5 weeks of age, your deposit amount must total $1,000, and the balance must be paid when you pick-up your puppy, or at the time we meet you to deliver your puppy, or before we ship your puppy to you. All 2nd Priority reservations that move to 1st Priority before a litter is born must increase their total deposit to $300. Your deposit becomes non-refundable according to the provisions stated in Section 3B.5.  All other sections of this revised Purchase Policy will also apply. After that date, a refund will be according to Section 3B.5 and 3.E5 for those who placed a deposit prior to January 1, 2022.

3E.5  Existing Waiting List Rollovers to 2022 Litter.  Customers who placed a deposit on one of our litters born in 2021 but didn't get a puppy and were rolled over to the next litter in 2022, are treated as a "first litter reservation." This does not mean you will lose your place in line, nor does it mean and you are moved to the bottom of the Priority List. It simply means that you will still have an opportunity to request a refund later IF (and only if) there are not enough puppies in the next litter for you to get one. If you do not request a refund after not getting a puppy from the next litter, your deposit is rolled over to the following litter and is treated as your second reservation. Deposits rolled over to your second litter reservation (and thereafter) are not refundable under any circumstances.

4.  IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER:
4A.  MULTIPLE RESERVATIONS.  Your chances of getting a puppy increase when you get on more than one reservation list for a litter color and/or gender. The greatest chances of getting a puppy will be for those on our Priority reservation lists, and the chances become even greater when you get on more than one Priority reservation list. And remember, when a litter is born where you will definitely be getting a puppy from that litter, all of your other deposits will transfer over to that puppy purchase so that you won’t lose your deposits on other litters.

4B.  SEPARATE ACCOUNTS. A person who wishes to get on our waiting lists for more than one litter color (white cream, white creamy blonde, BSP, or auburn), and/or one or both genders (male, female, or both) needs to create separate accounts for each reservation so that we can maintain where you stand with respect to other reservations on the list. For Priority reservations, a separate deposit must be paid for each reservation which will be associated with each account separately. For Standby lists, a separate account is also required, although no deposit is associated with a Standby account until we notify you that a puppy is available for you to consider for purchase.

4C.  UPGRADING FROM STANDBY TO PRIORITY.  Any person on our Standby List can get on our Priority List by paying the deposit amounts listed in Section 1A for 1st Priority, or Section 1B for 2nd Priority. Your place in line on our Priority List will be immediately behind those who were already on the Priority List before you. All the policies for Priority List reservations will then apply to your upgraded reservation.

4D.  CHANGE OF COLOR OR GENDER.  If a customer wishes to change to a different litter color or gender on our waiting lists, this can be done by contacting us through a text message or email and making the request the request in writing. However, if you change litters or genders, your reservation must go behind those who are already in line on the other waiting lists, whether it be a Priority reservation or the Standby List.

*****  END OF NEW POLICY CHANGES  *****

HERE ARE THREE THINGS THAT HAPPEN AFTER A PUPPY LITTER IS BORN:

First, we will make a general announcement that the litter was born, but we will not disclose how many pups are in the litter until all the pups are completely stabilized. This generally takes about five to seven days, at which time we will announce the number of male and female pups in the litter. At that time we contact you and let you know if we will have a puppy for you to choose. We will also let the remaing people in 1st Priority know if there were not enough pups to for you to get one. For those people who didn't get a puppy because there were not enough in the litter, you will be much higher up on the reservation list if you choose to roll your deposit over to the next litter. Or, you can request a refund of your deposit if you have not previously rolled your deposit over already from a previous litter.

Second, when the pups turn five weeks old, we will schedule a time for you and/or your family to come to our facility to interact with the puppies and meet the parents. If you like our facility, our adult dogs, and you see a puppy that steals your heart, you can then choose that puppy according to its microchip number which we will scan for you in your presence. You will then place an additional deposit so that all of your deposits total $1,000 when the pups are 5 weeks old. All deposits are non-refundable if you cancel. Although we highly recommend you to come to our facility, you may choose not to come when the puppies are five weeks old and do a video chat with us and the puppies instead. A video chat allows you see close-ups of the puppies and ask us questions to help you decide.

Third, you will come out to our facility or meet you somewhere at an agreeable location (for and extra fee) when the puppies are around nine weeks of age. You then pay your final balance, and take your new furry family member home with you. Or if the puppy is being delivered to you by airlines, we will arrange a payment method with you in advance, and notify you by email of all puppy travel arrangements.

FAQs

How much are Emery-n-Denise's Golden Puppies? The Puppy Availability table on our main front page (click here) shows the price range of each of the five colors of litters. The price is fixed after the litter is born and depends on the number of pups in the litter and the number of male and female pups. Larger numbers of puppies will be priced at the lower end of the range shown in the that table, whereas smaller numbers of puppies will be priced higher. We have prepared a detailed explanation of how the puppy pricing is determined which can be viewed here. Once the price is fixed for the males and females in a puppy litter, those on our Standby waiting list will still have the option of cancelling their reservation and can request a refund up until the puppies reach five weeks of age.

How do I get on your Priority Reservation List or your Standby List? Call us and we will ask you if you've filled out a puppy application, read our purchase agreement and terms and conditions, and then ask you if you have any questions for us. If everything is understood and you are comfortable after talking to us, we will text message you a link for you to create a customer registration account which we will use to keep track of your position on the waitingy list.

If I am on the standby list, how will I know if a puppy becomes available for me to choose where I need pay a deposit? We will call you and let you know.

What forms of payment are accepted? For your initial deposit, you can use your credit card or your PayPal account which will include an extra fee of around 3.9%. We also accept Venmo (no extra fees) to Emery-n-Denise@Golden-Puppies. When the puppies are 5 weeks old and you choose to purchase one, you can pay the next portion of your deposit with Venmo, Cash, or a personal check. When you come to take the puppy home with you, your final balance must be paid with either Venmo or Cash (unless you contact us at least two weeks in advance to work out other payment arrangements).
